Peter Phelps

Dr Peter Phelps was a founder member of both the British Society of Head and Neck Imaging and the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology. He was a pioneer in temporal bone imaging and co-wrote the definitive textbook on ENT Radiology of its time.

The Society has arranged an inscription on the “Wall of Honour“ at the Royal Society of Medicine in memory of Dr Peter Phelps. It is our way of saying thank you to Peter for his outstanding contribution to British Head and Neck Radiology. The inscription can be seen in the atrium of the Royal Society of Medicine and there is also a “virtual wall” service  to allow friends and colleagues to share personal thoughts and stories.

The Wall of Honour Ceremony took place on Sunday 21st September and was attended by members  (three generations) of Peter’s family and also by Dr Tim Beale and Dr Lloyd Savy, who were representing the BSHNI. It was agreed that £1000 would be paid directly from Society funds and these funds have already been paid. The remaining £1000 will be obtained from personal donations from members of the Society. We are now accepting these donations. Please email if you would like to make a donation. You will then receive information on how to transfer funds to the BSHNI account. Any surplus money will be used to support the Peter Phelps Commemorative Lecture.

The Peter Phelps Lecture, commemorating the first Chairman of our Society was introduced in 2012 and is now a centerpiece of the BSHNI annual meeting. A distinguished Head and Neck Radiologist, usually from overseas, is invited to give the lecture.
