Founders of ASHNR – BSHNI visiting professorship in 2023 This reciprocal Professorship will fund a Radiologist from both the UK and USA to visit several training programmes in the counterpart country to teach Radiology Trainees / Residents, inspiring them in the field of Head & Neck Radiology and help train the next generation of H&N Radiologists. For the UK Professor, the award covers up to a maximum of £3000 including return travel from the UK, local travel in USA & accommodation We are pleased to announce that Dr Gitta Madani has been appointed the First ASHNR-BSHNI Visiting Professor for 2024Purpose:

Key Objectives
- To teach Head & Neck Radiology & promote it as a choice for subspecialty training amongst Radiology trainees/residents in the UK & USA
- To raise the profile of ASHNR and BSHNI, fostering international relations and facilitating further reciprocal foreign exchange programmes such as H&N Fellowships
- To encourage an appreciation of differences between various healthcare systems, including imaging strategies by both trainees and trainers
- To enhance professional development amongst trainers through international education, teaching, and networking
Participating USA Regions
Northeast (Boston University, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General Brigham, Yale University)
Midwest (Indiana University, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, University of Missouri, University of Pittsburgh, University of Wisconsin)
Southeast (Duke University, Emory University, Texas Children’s Hospital, Vanderbilt University)
West (Stanford University, UCSF, UCSD, USC, Oregon Health Sciences University, and University of Utah)
Visiting Professor for 2024 will visit institutions in the West of USA
Geographic regions will be rotated
Application Process & Selection Procedure
Personal statement (maximum 300 words) and recent CV must be forwarded to the society via email.
Decisions are made by a panel of three, comprising current members of BSHNI Council. If multiple applicants are shortlisted, then candidates will be invited for an online interview at a mutually convenient time. Depending on the standard of application, BSHNI reserves the right to defer the appointment to the following year. Domains that will be scored on are:
- Commitment to Head & Neck Imaging
- Commitment to the BSHNI
- Head & Neck Imaging education and / or research
- 5 Lecture Titles to present during Professorship
Eligibility Criteria
Full BSHNI member, RCR and GMC member in good standing
Must be a Substantive Consultant Radiologist with FRCR (or equivalent) in a UK NHS Trust with a Head & Neck Imaging interest
Demonstrate a track record of presenting Head & Neck Imaging lectures at meetings particularly BSHNI / RCR / ESHNR events
Applicant may have either an education or research background or both
Current members of the BSHNI Council, current RCR-BSHNI Travelling Professor & Travelling Bursary holder are not eligible to apply
Conditions for Award
- The Visiting Professorship will be awarded to one individual to visit a Geographic region in the USA (as suggested by ASHNR) not exceeding 2 weeks during the award year
- They will be given the title of ASHNR-BSHNI Visiting Professor
- All awards are made based on single person visits & will not include partners, children or additional travel
- All travel documents including visa & insurance are the responsibility of the award holder
- All claims for travel & accommodation will be in line with the society’s policy
- BSHNI will liaise with ASHNR & the participating institutions to ensure appropriate accommodation, lecture facilities & local hospitality are provided
- Upon completion of the Professorship, the award holder should submit a report to the society not exceeding 500 words, within 3 months
- They will be invited to share their experience at the Annual Meeting of BSHNI the year following of the award
